Will Norman & May Oskan

Will Norman is a Bay Area based multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and cyclist. A lifelong composer and improviser, Will draws inspiration from the music of Charles Mingus, Django Reinhardt, and Ella Fitzgerald. His work as an accompanist is dynamic, supportive, and interactive, and as a soloist his unique and lyrical style reflects a lifetime of exploring different instruments and traditions. He performs jazz guitar both solo and in collaboration, and plays guitar and sings in local protest folk punk ensemble That Band Frank.

May Oskan is a vocalist and writer based in Oakland. Her style is both sweet and spirited, with a warm vintage tone recalling cool jazz-era queens like Julie London and June Christy, and improvisations inspired by Chet Baker and Sarah Vaughan. A veteran of rock, soul, pop, folk, and blues, her presence and playfulness showcase a genre-spanning performance history and a writer’s sensitivity for pacing and lyric.

With their combined experience and daring, May and Will perform a lively selection of standards, bossanovas, and blues.
