If A Tree Falls is an acoustic trio featuring vibrant father-daughter harmonies woven into string arrangements of folk, rock, Americana, & beyond. IATF's wide terrain stretches from the traditional to the present day, reimagining familiar favorites as well as discovering hidden gems, but not so precious as to be above covering an 80s pop hit. A few of the artists covered: Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, CCR, Paul Simon, Nanci Griffith, Jason Isbell, Guster, Cyndi Lauper, Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss, Molly Tuttle, Radiohead, Decemberists, Tom Waits, and Neil Young.

Mark Walstrom (guitar, mandolin, nyckelharpa, vocals) began playing guitar in high school to spite his older sister and monopolize her instrument. Of Swedish ancestry, he grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota. As a graduate student, he spent two years working in northern Wisconsin cranberry bogs to earn his master's in botany. Following his graduation, Mark moved to Oregon where he worked in commercial plant propagation and joined an Irish music band. At UC Berkeley, he served as their plant collector for 20 years before retiring to open Timbre Folk and Baroque in Berkeley where he builds, repairs and sells musical instruments.

Jennie Walstrom (vocals, nyckelharpa), Mark’s daughter, has been singing with her father since before she was old enough to understand what she was doing. In addition to the IATF repertoire, Mark and Jennie enjoy playing and singing Swedish folk music. As a high schooler, Jennie learned to play nyckelharpa (Swedish key fiddle) from her dad. They perform at local Swedish gatherings and festivals including Lucia Day and Midsommar. Professionally, Jennie inherited her father's interest in science and plants and is currently a chemistry teacher at Holy Names High School in Rockridge. Her favorite lab demonstration is the exploding pumpkin. She enjoys knitting and crafting in her free time.

Bernie Lenhoff (guitars, dobro, vocals) was classically trained on guitar as a child but found more in common with the singer/songwriters of the 60s & 70s. Inspired by the improvisation of the Grateful Dead, he taught himself electric bass and lead guitar. While studying theater in college, Bernie continued exploring music, including West Javanese Gamelan. Love of movement, percussion, and improv led him to become an expert tap dancer, performing in the movie "Tap" with Gregory Hines. Moving to the Bay Area in the 90s, he formed World Beat Bastards, a world beat power trio playing original uptempo dance music. Bernie has since returned to his roots in acoustic guitar-driven Americana/folk/rock/pop, often covering other artists with fresh inventive arrangements. His latest tangent has been learning dobro, inspired by its melodic expressiveness. Bernie considers his beloved Beard dobro to be the fourth member of IATF.
