About the event
Joey Chang, aka CelloJoe, is a one-of-a-kind force in the world of cellists. Cello + Beatboxing + Vocals = CelloJoe
Blending classical musicianship with the raw energy of hip-hop, CelloJoe redefines what’s possible with a cello. He beatboxes, sings, and bows or plucks his instrument to create a symphony of sound—live, without pre-recorded tracks. His unique style, Classical Hip-Hop, fuses deep grooves with thought-provoking lyrics about sustainability, environmental justice, and social awareness.
From folk to rock, dubstep to classical, CelloJoe seamlessly mimics and merges genres, using his voice, throat singing, and percussive cello techniques to craft beats and melodies that inspire, entertain, and make audiences think.
A true musical nomad, CelloJoe is the world’s first long-distance, musical bike-touring cellist. He has cycled over 10,000 miles across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia—spreading music, joy, and a message of sustainability wherever the road takes him.
