About the event
Ira Marlowe, proprietor of Berkeley’s Monkey House, has been called “a songwriter’s songwriter.” He’s taught his craft at UC Berkeley and seen his music featured in places ranging from NPR to the Dr. Demento show to four San Francisco Mime Troupe productions. His warm voice and smart, literate lyrics have earned him many awards and one crappy record deal. Drawing comparisons that range from Tom Waits to James Taylor to Elvis Costello, there’s nothing run-of-the-mill here. His top-flight band injects the material with exciting new elements from Motown, Cajun, Blues and Funk— with no shortage of rock ’n’ roll.
